donate to the business closet: experts say if something has not been worn in six months, it may be time to pass it along. students on a budget will be able to choose one complete outfit per academic year, free of charge. thus, the business closet is seeking business attire that is cleaned prior to donation and is of good to excellent quality. drop off your donations to the dean’s office, 106 white hall. hangers and clothing racks will also be accepted, as will monetary donations.

the college of business administration uses cutting-edge technology to provide students with specialized facilities and resources that promote hands-on learning. through our unique class settings, wireless internet access and frequent updates, we remain forward-reaching in our teaching approach.
the majority of business courses are taught in powell and white halls. wireless access is available throughout the buildings and in the courtyard. computer laboratories are open to all students in the college of business. in addition, every classroom is equipped with state-of-the-art computers and projectors; some contain smartboard technology.

classroom settings – the college of business administration strives to offers its students a modern learning environment, with small class sizes to ensure that faculty and students can engage with one another without the distractions often associated with large class sizes. the average sized class offered in the college of business is 25; faculty are academically qualified and/or professionally qualified in a particular field of study. each classroom is equipped with state-of-the-art computers, internet access, and ceiling mounted electronic projections systems and speakers. most are set up with table seating to facilitate student learning, thus, enhancing the educational experience. some classrooms are equipped with smartboards; others have monitors with smart technology, allowing the use of digital ink as an alternative to whiteboard and chalkboards. three portable laptop/projection systems are also available.
marilyn gaubert ponder collaborative learning and resource center – with comfortable furniture, a sandwich shop, and computer work stations, the mgp center provides the perfect atmosphere for enhanced learning beyond the classroom. students are encouraged to develop their professional socialization, networking, and teamwork skills. the center also contains an electronic stock ticker and two plasma screen televisions.
sales and interactive training laboratory – the sitl is a six room suite where professional sales students will learn what it takes to meet with potential clients and practice their sales presentations without having to leave campus. the laboratory provides one-of-a-kind opportunities designed to perfect their sales and behavioral skills, with role-play rooms equipped with professional video cameras and one-way observation mirrors. the control room houses digital video recording and editing equipment as scenarios are recorded so students may review and improve their performances. the facility is also used for the annual bayou sales challenge, an intercollegiate sales role-play competition hosted by the college of business at nicholls each spring.
michele d. guidry executive mba classroom – this classroom accommodates 15 executive mba students in a boardroom environment and is suitable for case discussions, seminars and lectures. the guidry room encourages interaction among graduate students and professors via state-of -the art, user friendly technology. teaching tools include a viewing monitor that allows interactive writing and recording on the screen, ceiling mounted, surround-sound speakers and a high-resolution projector.
barker family executive classroom– a replica of the michele d. guidry classroom, the barker family executive classroom allows for simultaneous cohorts of the executive mba to be taught in a separate location. the barker classroom is located off campus in houma, louisiana’s duhe’ building, which is centrally located next to the houma-terrebonne civic center.
cenac computer center + other labs – the college has 4 computer labs available for student use, 2 in white hall and 2 in powell. the computers have internet access and run windows, ms office professional, spss, qm, pom, excel qm2, research insight, business strategy game, and peachtree complete accounting. three labs are designed for teaching, with ceiling mounted projection units. the college has a laptop lab which serves as a mobile lab to be used in any classroom. furthermore, the college also has an on-site computer support staff.
ridley j. gros auditorium – named after a former dean of the college of business administration, the gros auditorium can house some of the college’s larger classes, as well as guest speakers and professional seminars. the 122 seat (with 6 additional handicapped seating) theater-style facility underwent major renovations and is now a state-of-the-art facility with recessed lighting, computer, dual projectors, and a built-in sound system. chairs are in-line attached, with lumbar support. the tables have wire management built into the legs with enough power hubs for each student.
online and distance learning studio – the second floor of white hall is home to the college’s online program. made possible by various grants, faculty can record and/or stream lessons to students around the corner or around the globe.
the college of business at nicholls state university awards thousands of dollars of privately funded scholarships to deserving students. the application process begins each spring semester. the online application form provided in the link below allows students to simultaneously apply to all offered scholarships. the college’s scholarship committee then meets to select recipients. recipients are announced at the college’s annual honor’s banquet.
the college of business administration is currently offering the following scholarships. please note that scholarship programs and funding are subject to change from year to year based upon funding levels and availability. certain scholarships have restrictions such as a minimum gpa in order to qualify. furthermore, there may be additional actions (such as letters of recommendation or a personal essay) not requested on the application form that must be taken in order to fully meet the particular scholarship requirements. students may submit additional documentation to the dean’s office.
the application period for cba scholarships occurs each spring semester.
james j. buquet scholarship
this scholarship is awarded to one female and one male college of business student each year. applicants must have earned at least 75 hours toward their degree, be classified as non-graduating and have a minimum 3.0 gpa. recipients are selected based on activities, gpa and financial need. mr. buquet was the founder of buquest distributing buquet distributing, a wholesaler of over 250 different brands of beer, wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages.
ridley j. gros, dean emeritus, scholarship in management
this scholarship was created by family and friends of dr. ridley j. gros, dean emeritus of the nicholls college of business. dr. gros was a distinguished academic and highly regarded colleague; he was instrumental in the college’s initial accreditation by aacsb. it is awarded to one management major who has earned between 60 and 89 non-development hours of credit. applicants must have a minimum 3.0 gpa. recipients are selected based on gpa, financial need, involvement in student organizations, and other scholarships and financial aid. previous recipients of this scholarship are eligible to reapply.
ridely j. gros scholarship
this scholarship, also in memory of dr. ridley j. gros, dean emeritus, is awarded to one college of business student. applicants must be classified as a junior and have a minimum 2.8 gpa. recipients are selected predominantly on demonstrated leadership and the potential to excel in a leadership position. previous recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to reapply.
northwestern mutual financial network scholarship
this scholarship is awarded to a college of business junior or non-graduating senior. applicants must have a minimum 2.5 gpa. recipients are selected based on gpa, activities and financial need. a one-page essay outlining career goals and interest in financial services is required.
mike bauer memorial scholarship
this scholarship is awarded to outstanding juniors or non-graduating seniors majoring in finance at nicholls. the mike bauer memorial scholarship is a fully endowed scholarship and was created by mr. and mrs. mike bauer in memory of their son, mike bauer, who was an economics major at nicholls. recipients are selected based on character, academic performance, activities, and financial need. applicants must have a minimum 2.5 gpa.
mr. and mrs. o.j. cenac scholarship
this scholarship is awarded to a computer information systems junior or non-graduating senior. applicants must have a minimum 3.0 overall gpa, a minimum 3.5 gpa in cis courses, and have earned 15 credit hours of courses needed to complete the cis degree. selection is based on financial need and contribution to the cis program. mr. and mrs. cenac were the founders of cenac marine, a leader in the towing industry.
norman swanner “big boy” memorial business scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a full time college of business junior or senior. Norman Swanner was a Thibodaux City Councilman, who also owned and managed Bubba’s Restaurant & Sports Lounge. Applicant must have graduated from E. D. White or Thibodaux High School and be a resident of Lafourche Parish. Minimum 3.0 GPA required.
glenn walters marketing scholarship
this scholarship was established to honor the memory of dr. glenn walters – a former dean of the college of business and a distinguished scholar in the field of marketing. it is awarded to a marketing junior, who has earned between 60 and 89 non-developmental hours of credit. applicants must have a minimum 3.0 gpa. recipients are selected based on gpa.
kleen family endowed scholarship in business
this scholarship is awarded to a student achieving junior status upon completion of term of application. applicants must meet the following criteria: (1) full-time student enrolled in the college of business; (2) non-traditional student (at least 24 years of age, delayed college enrollment after finishing high school or who has returned after an extended period of time, is considered financially independent for purposes of determining financial aid, works full-time or part-time, or who may be a single parent); and (3) 2.75 minimum gpa. award could be for 2 semesters if recipient is a senior and maintains gpa, or 4 semesters total if recipient is a junior and maintains gpa.
clift gresham memorial scholarship
this scholarship is presented each year in memory of dr. clift gresham, who served on the faculty of nicholls state university as a finance professor for many years. it is awarded to one full time college of business student with a 3.0 minimum gpa. applicant must be of junior standing at the time of receipt of the scholarship. two letters of recommendation must accompany the application.
dr. r. morris coats scholarship in economics and finance
dr. r. morris coast spent the last 30 years of his academic career as an economics professor in the college of business. this scholarship was established in his memory and is awarded per year to a full time college of business student interested in economics and finance. recipients are selected based on gpa, activities, and financial need. applicants are required to provide a 1 page essay examining the following topic, “why is service learning an important part of a college education?”
drs. nick and elaine fry endowed scholarship
this scholarship will be awarded to a college of business junior or senior with a declared major in accounting or human resources. applicants must (1) be a full time student and have a minimum gpa of 3.0 (2) be a u.s. citizen and resident of the state of louisiana.
dr. aaron e.l. caillouet memorial award
this award was established in memory of dr. caillouet, who taught accounting and management courses at nicholls, as well as ran the small business development center. it is awarded to an upperclassman in accounting or management.
jerome and dian benoit scholarship
the recipient of this scholarship may receive the award for one academic year and must meet the following criteria: (1) a graduate of a louisiana high school, (2) a full time student at nicholls state university, (3) a junior or senior majoring in computer information systems, (4) maintain a 2.5 gpa, and (5) have a financial need and a desire and motivation to successfully complete a cis degree at nicholls state university.
additional scholarships are also available for accounting majors .

every five years, the college of business administration faculty, staff, current students, alumni, local employers and various other stakeholders gather for a strategic planning retreat in order to design its future. essential to this plan is the college’s mission. in august of 2016, the following mission statement was adopted:

strategic goals and objectives
there are four proposed goals for the college of business administration’s 5-year strategic plan, which covers the academic years 2016 through 2020. collectively, these goals are part of the college’s overarching growth strategy. growth shall be measured primarily through total number of students declaring a major within the college, student credit hours (schs) attributable to business courses, and revenue from traditional and non-traditional sources. additionally, these goals are only feasible with the understanding the college and the accounting program will continue to maintain aacsb accreditation. furthermore, these goals are obtainable only if quality business faculty members are retained.
the college’s pursuit of these goals, objectives, and outcomes enables it to continue building distinction in its programs, as well as align itself with the goals of the university. ultimately, this continues to establish the college of business administration as an essential part of nicholls state university.

accounting and finance club is organized to help students develop leadership abilities and gain an appreciation for the fields of accounting and finance. the organization also provides relevant information to other students interested in accounting/finance careers and arranges meetings with practicing professionals to aid in the understanding of practical accounting and finance in the “real world.” the accounting and finance club meets regularly, is student driven and combines activities that are academic and social in nature. some of the activities include monthly meetings, committee meetings (when needed), community service projects, fundraisers and an end-of-the-semester social. membership in the accounting and finance club is open to all students, regardless of major or classification.

information systems club the isc is an organization designed to: (1) provide extra-curricular educational opportunities, awareness and experiences in the area of information systems; (2) provide information about the most current information systems ideas, standards, methods and tools to its members; (3) aid others with solving information systems questions or problems; (4) improve comprehension of the essential business role of information systems and its relationship to the business world; and, (5) organize activities that benefit isc and its members. membership in the isc is open to all students.
